A Girl and a Boy.
We are Jenny and Glen. We are individuals of a ‘certain age’ but we still call each the other, ‘The Girl’ or ‘The Boy’. – We’re normal people, with normal jobs and obligations who love the world and love to explore it through travel as our schedules and budgets allow.
We created ‘Beyond the Guardrail’, to share our stories and to help inform others on the practical realities of travel and exploration from the perspective of people who aren’t trust funders or full-time ‘influencers’ . We’ll tell you the pros and cons of our travels, hoping that it helps others create their own adventures.
And because we aren’t able to travel all of the time, we may throw in some tidbits about our lives to mix things up. The social media illuminati call that content, ‘Life Style’. As they often say in Tanzania, ‘Sure, why not?’ – We’re known for doing some crazy, over-the-top parties that are also, metaphorically, Beyond the Guardrail, so: you can expect some of that.
Beyond the Guardrail
When Glen was a teenager, he had the good fortune to do an America cross-country trip in a motorhome over the course of a summer month. During that vacation, Glen got to visit most of the US states. It was a watershed experience that forever ingrained in him a love of travel.
The trip included visits to many national parks such as Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. But, for as fantastic as the trip was, Glen could feel the call to do more. Standing at the rim of the Grand Canyon, at the crowded overlooks, contained by guardrails, he yearned to go into the Canyon: to explore deeper.
It wasn’t until after college that Glen and a couple of friends, (with little money), headed west again with the intent of visiting some of these parks but this time: to head Beyond the Guardrail.
That backpacking trip, so many years ago, lead to more explorations in the US and beyond in the years that followed. And today, we still adhere to that philosophy: to travel and to explore a little deeper.
The world is big and beautiful and we hope you’ll come with us, Beyond the Guardrail.
